A federal judge in Chicago has ordered immigration enforcement agents to begin using body-worn cameras after clashes with protesters turned violent last week.

San Mateo County supervisors voted unanimously to remove Sheriff Christina Corpus, marking the first time a California county has ousted an elected sheriff.
Takeaways:
A retired judge found Corpus violated county rules on nepotism and retaliation.
Voters had earlier approved a measure giving supervisors power to remove sheriffs.
Corpus has 14 days to appeal the decision and denies wrongdoing.
The county’s undersheriff will serve as interim sheriff.
Corpus, elected in 2022 as a reform candidate, argued her removal stemmed from resistance to her push for change within the department. Her legal team, including former Obama labor secretary Tom Perez, called the move politically motivated.
Judge James Emerson’s report detailed multiple misconduct allegations, including an unlawful arrest order and an inappropriate relationship with a subordinate.

4. U.S. Advisers Warn Gaza Hostage Recovery Faces Major Delays

Hamas has told U.S. advisers it needs more time to recover the bodies of slain hostages from Gaza’s ruins, as Israel signals it may resume fighting if all remains are not returned soon.
Takeaways:
Only 9 of 28 slain hostages’ bodies have been recovered, despite Hamas handing over 20 live captives earlier this week.
Israeli officials accuse Hamas of violating a Trump-brokered ceasefire and threaten renewed military action.
Gaza’s destruction from two years of bombardment has made recovery efforts nearly impossible.
Aid deliveries have been cut in half by Israel in response to slow progress on the hostages’ remains.
Talks are underway to form an international stabilization force for Gaza, with U.S. logistical support.
Two senior U.S. advisers confirmed that Hamas faces massive logistical barriers in locating bodies buried beneath Gaza’s debris. “The entire Gaza Strip has been pulverized,” one said. “In a 72-hour ceasefire, it would have been almost impossible to find and move all 28 bodies.”
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to prepare for renewed combat if Hamas fails to comply with the peace deal. “Hamas must return all the fallen hostages,” his office said, warning that Israel, backed by Washington, “will act decisively to defeat Hamas.”
The United Nations reported that Israel has halved aid shipments to Gaza due to the slow release of remains. Palestinian officials say nearly 70,000 have been killed since 2023, with famine declared in parts of the enclave.
Behind the scenes, Washington and regional allies are crafting a postwar plan involving troops from Egypt, Qatar, Indonesia, and others to stabilize Gaza once hostilities end.
The fragile ceasefire now hinges on whether Hamas can deliver the dead and how long Israel will wait. Read More
